The incoming tide here travels faster than walking pace

The RNLI warn that the large tidal range off west and north Norfolk means the incoming tide can travel at well over walking pace. The danger is most acute on high spring tides, when the sea goes out much further but comes back in much faster.

Hunstanton is one of the region’s busiest lifeboat stations, and many of its roughly 40 launches a year are to people cut off by the tide. In one rescue, two of the three people cut off did not realise it had happened.

If you find yourself cut off, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard. Do not try to wade across any gully or creek that is filling with water.
